Our Terms of Contract
The following Terms and Conditions must be accepted by the Client (in writing) prior to commencement of any work.
Survey reports and Estimates submitted by Thanet Timber and Damp Ltd, hereinafter referred to as The Company, are subject to the following conditions:
1) Payment Terms: A one third deposit is required for all work (payable before commencement of work). Balance due within 7 days of completion of work. No Guarantees will be issued prior to payment being received in full.
2) The Company reserves the right to charge interest on outstanding sums if the invoice remains unpaid for longer than one month.
3) The Estimate remains valid for a period of 28 days from the date of issue. Beyond this period, The Company reserves the right to re-survey the property and re-quote if necessary.
4) 48 hours notice must be given if the starting date of the contract is postponed. The Company reserves the right to charge for the time wasted if their employees are not allowed to commence on the date agreed and the above notice is not given. Subject only to the foregoing time limit, the one third deposit will be returned in full if unforeseen circumstances necessitate the cancellation of the Contract.
5) The Client agrees to accept the recommended treatment which will be carried out as detailed in the Survey Report.
6) The Company's Survey Report and long term guarantee cover are limited to those areas specified in the report.
7) The Survey Report issued relates only to instructions received.
8) Whilst every effort is made to carry out a comprehensive inspection, no furniture, floor covering and/or flooring would be moved/lifted without specific instruction and permission and therefore our inspection would be subject to such limitations.
9) Damp Proof Course
Installation of a DPC will assist in preventing future dampness rising within the masonry above the level of the new damp proof course. However, if existing plaster work to the interior face of the wall remains in situ, dampness/deterioration may continue due to the presence of hydroscopic salts.
10) We are able to remove/refit skirting boards/radiators/electrical sockets. Skirting boards may be required to be cut to necessitate removal. We are unable to accept liability in respect of operation/condition of heating or electrical installations.
11) The Company reserves the right to adapt working procedures/methods in relation to unforeseen site conditions such as condition of sub strata/plaster depth, uninspected floor voids.
In such cases a variation order (V.O.) will be required to be signed by the client to authorise and works that were not contained within the initial estimate.
12) We are unable to issue guarantees with regard to condensation work due to changes of humidity levels within properties.
13) Party Wall:
If works are to be carried out to a party wall, it is the customer's responsibility to obtain permission from the owners of the neighbouring property. This must be obtained before commencement of works.
14) Planning permission:
It is the responsibility of the owner of the property to contact Building Control to ascertain if planning permission is required for any works to be carried out and to obtain such permissions prior to giving instruction to proceed with the works, unless otherwise agreed with the company.
15) Ownership of goods:
16) Ownership of goods/materials shall remain with Thanet Timber & Damp Ltd until the agreed price for them, together with all other sums due from the customer have been paid in full.
17) Acceptance of Estimate:
Acceptance of our estimate should be in writing, and sent either by post or email to Thanet Timber & Damp Ltd.
18) Survey Fees
We charge a nominal fee of £80 (including VAT) for Survey Reports, to cover our expenses. On your instruction to proceed with the Survey, this fee becomes payable on delivery of our completed Survey Report.
b) Payment terms
